As the nations world wide are coming closer to the commemoration of the word AIDS day on December 1, 2015, Evangelical Lutheran Church in Malawi (ELCM) has not been left behind as it will be holding the same event on December 6, 2016.
Speaking with Tigawane news, ELCM HIV and AIDS Coordinator, Rev. Alick Msuku disclosed that all the preparations are going on well such that 2015 commemoration will consider new pillars in line with ELCM’s objectives.
“This year’s commemoration has carried three pillars that are guiding ELCM in the fight against malaria of which each pillar to achieve ninety percent,” Rev Msuku continued.
These three pillars include: sensitizing congregants as well couples volunteering to go for blood test, all the church members who are HIV positive have started receiving ARVs and those that have been on ARV treatment are achieving viral suppression in their daily lives.
He however, urged the congregants and the general public to join hands with various organizations that are in the fight against this fatal disease.
“AIDS is real and it is taking many lives of people world wide including our country Malawi. It is therefore my plea to the general public to work together with all stakeholders who are at the fore front in the fight against HIV and AIDS. It is the fight of all of us. Together we stand, divided we fall,” Msuku concluded.
According to the Coordinator, the ABC goals that’s “Abstinence, Be faithful and use of Condoms has been a long way such that a lot has been achieved and there was a need to look on the other side of the pandemic in line with the current situation.
