Bishop Bjorn Vikstrom of Porvoo Diocese of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Finland (ELCF) has encouraged the African countries including Malawi to proclaim the word of God regardless of the challenges these Africa is facing.
Bishop Vikstrom made an encouragement during the closing of the seventh Youth Assembly of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Malawi (ELCM) on 22nd August 2015 at the church’s Cathedral in Lilongwe.
“It is so interesting that the poor country like Malawi is at the peak of proclaiming the word of God. This is totally different with developed countries like those in Europe where the Good News is nothing to their interest. People in Europe always get satisfied with their riches such that they think that is a wastage of time to worship God as they have everything they need in life,” said Bishop Bjorn Vikstrom.
In Malawi; the same people who are struggling to earn their living are the ones who are moving around spreading the word of God.
Bishop Vikstrom: “With all the activities I have seen here, it really shows that there is Jesus in Malawi. Therefore I encourage you all to keep on praising the Lord with all your hearts.
The Bishop further explained that his visitation to ELCM was an indication that the church in Malawi is not walking alone.
In his remarks Bishop Dr. Joseph. P. Bvumbwe of ELCM acknowledged the visit of Bishop Bjorn and other delegates as the Bishop of Finland strengthened the relationship between the two churches.
“Am very happy that the relationship that was established three years is bearing fruits. As a church we hope that our cordial relation will continue. Malawians always feel blessed when visitors come to our homeland.” Bishop Joseph Bvumbwe concluded.
The Diocese of Porvoo and the ELCM signed the partnership agreement in 2012 when Bishop Bvumbwe and Mama Bishop (Mrs Maria Bvumbwe) made a visit to Finland.
